DENTAL INLAYS & ONLAYS

BEVERLY HILLS

A SUPERIOR ANSWER TO FILLINGS

Beverly Hills Porcelain Inlays and Onlays

An inlay restoration is a unique form of custom-made filling. Porcelain inlays, in particular, are highly favored due to their exceptional durability and resemblance to your teeth’s natural enamel. Our dental practice crafts porcelain inlays in our advanced in-house laboratory, ensuring a precise and impeccable fit.

ABOUT PORCELAIN INLAYS

Inlays provide a conservative approach to repairing teeth with significant defective fillings and teeth affected by decay or trauma. They present a widely accepted alternative to traditional composite or silver fillings. Compared to crowns, inlays are a more conservative treatment as they involve the removal of significantly less tooth structure during the preparation process.
Like natural teeth and other dental restorations, inlays can experience wear and damage over time. Consequently, they are only sometimes considered permanent solutions. Even the highest quality inlays may eventually require maintenance or replacement. Ceramic inlays are notably durable and can often last for many years, enhancing the beauty of your natural smile.

ABOUT PORCELAIN ONLAYS

A porcelain onlay restoration is a unique and tailored filling made from porcelain material. Porcelain onlays are highly favored due to their exceptional durability and close resemblance to your natural teeth. Another term used for an onlay is a “partial crown.” Onlays are a conservative approach to addressing teeth with extensive, faulty fillings or teeth that have incurred damage from trauma or decay.

Onlays are considered a more conservative option than crowns or caps, as they involve the removal of significantly less tooth structure during the tooth preparation. The key distinction between onlays and inlays is that onlays are used when one or more of the chewing cusps of the tooth have been damaged and need restoration.

Like natural teeth and all dental restorations, onlays can experience wear and structural issues, which may not always be permanent. There may be a time when they require maintenance or replacement. However, porcelain onlays are known for their durability, and with proper care, they can last for many years, adding to the beauty of your natural smile.

WHAT DOES PLACING A PORCELAIN ONLAY OR INLAY ENTAIL?

The procedures for onlays and inlays may require one or two appointments. In the initial visit, Dr. RodneyRaanan will take precise molds and impressions. These will be used to create a custom onlay or inlay for you.
During the procedure, the tooth and surrounding gum will be numbed. While the area is numb, the dentist will prepare the tooth by removing decay and shaping the surface to accommodate the new onlay or inlay. Once the preparations are completed, a temporary crown will be placed using temporary cement. Your bite will be checked to ensure proper alignment of your teeth.
After the preparations are done, the new onlay or inlay will be placed precisely. The spacing and bite will be carefully examined, and the restoration will be securely attached using a permanent adhesive.

ARE THESE PROCEDURES PAINFUL?

No, these procedures are not considered painful. While you might feel some sensitivity during the tooth preparation, it’s important to note that porcelain crowns, inlays, and onlays may involve local anesthetics or sedation dentistry techniques. Dr. Rodney Raanan provides these techniques at their Beverly Hills practice to ensure a painless patient experience. Their comprehensive training, expertise, and experience are dedicated to making your office visit as comfortable and relaxing as possible.
