DENTAL INLAYS & ONLAYS

BEVERLY HILLS

A SUPERIOR ANSWER TO FILLINGS

Beverly Hills Porcelain Inlays and Onlays
An inlay restoration is a special type of custom-made filling. Porcelain inlays are quite popular because they are extremely durable, and they resemble the enamel of your natural teeth. Our porcelain inlays are made in-house by our state-of-the-art dental laboratory, making for an absolutely perfect fit.

ABOUT PORCELAIN INLAYS

Inlays are a conservative way to repair teeth that have large defective fillings, or teeth that have been damaged by trauma or decay. Inlays are a widely accepted alternative to conventional composite or silver fillings. They are a more conservative treatment than crowns because considerably less tooth structure is removed in the process of preparing the tooth. Like natural teeth and all dental restorations, inlays are subject to wear and damage. For this reason, they are not always permanent. Even the best of inlays may someday require service or replacement. Ceramic inlays are very durable, and will normally last for many years, enhancing your natural, beautiful smile.

ABOUT PORCELAIN ONLAYS

A porcelain onlay restoration is a special, custom-made filling that is constructed of porcelain. Porcelain onlays are quite popular, because they are extremely durable, and they closely resemble your natural teeth. Another name for an onlay is “partial crown.” Onlays are a conservative way to repair teeth that have large, defective fillings or teeth that have been damaged by trauma or decay.
Onlays are considered a more conservative alternative to crowns or caps because the process of preparing the tooth removes much less tooth structure. The essential difference between Onlays and inlays is that in the case of onlays, one or more of the chewing cusps have damage, and require restoration.
As with natural teeth and all types of dental restorations, onlays are subject to wear and structural damage — so they are not always permanent. They may someday require maintenance or replacement. Porcelain onlays are quite durable, though, and with reasonable care they will last for many years, enhancing your beautiful, natural smile.

WHAT DOES PLACING A PORCELAIN ONLAY OR INLAY ENTAIL?

These procedures can require one or two appointments. During your first appointment, Dr. Rodney or Dr. Raanan will take several very precise molds and impressions. These will be used to fabricate your custom onlay or inlay.

The tooth and adjacent gum are anesthetized. While it is numb, Dr. Rodney or Dr. Raanan will prepare the tooth, removing any decay and shaping the surface to facilitate fitting the new onlay or inlay. When these preparations are completed, the temporary crown will be secured in place with temporary cement, and your bite will be checked to ensure that your teeth are meeting properly.

When all preparations are complete, your new onlay or inlay will be precisely placed, the spacing and bite will be carefully evaluated, and it will then be secured with a “permanent” adhesive.

ARE THESE PROCEDURES PAINFUL?

No, these procedures are not considered painful. You may experience some sensitivity when the tooth is being prepared, and porcelain crowns, inlays, and onlays may require local anesthetics or sedation dentistry techniques. Dr. Rodney and Dr. Raanan offer these techniques at their practice in Beverly Hills for a painless experience. Dr. Rodney and Dr. Rodney Raanan utilize their extensive training, skills, and experience to give their patients the most relaxing, comfortable office visit possible.
